the experience

Hello again! Here you will find a little slice of who i am, where I’ve been and what the whole modern experience is all about.

Fact: I am a professionally trained, photography degree holding, ACAD alum photographer. Blah Blah Blah Photographer right? So what does that all mean… It means that I have four years of industry training, a background in the darkroom and film (colour and black&white.. developing AND printing old-school!) combined with superior knowledge of photoshop and all it’s amazingness. But most of all, I have a complete and thorough understanding of LIGHT. Light makes or breaks your photographs and when a photographer understands how to work with it, under any given circumstance, magic happens. I swear.

Fact: I adore people and the experience of getting to know you and I take great care in making you feel comfortable and at ease. Often your wedding or portrait shoot is your very first experience with a camera being pointed at you and only you. It can make for some anxiety prior; however one of the comments I almost always get  at the end of my first sessions with clients is “wow!  It didn’t even feel like I was getting my picture taken!”

Fact: I really love my life. ’nuff said.

Fact: I love weddings. I love shooting them, I love going to them, I love being a part of them. Anything and everything to do with weddings sends a rush of excitement through me. Poor Niall thought that once he married me, my love for shows like ‘Say Yes to the Dress’ or ‘Four Weddings’ etc would disappear….

Fact: I especially adore logistics. Many of my brides email me with questions of wedding-day timing and/or vendor queries. I am a huge networker and collector of amazing colleagues in the industry so if you need a fabulous florist or a jubilant JP, please give me a shout!

Fact: I cannot make jell-o. I have tried and tried and the bottom is never jiggly enough. If you have any advice please let me know.

Fact: I spend a great deal of time researching and looking for new locations. I always, always, ALWAYS location scout with you. That’s right, we spend an hour or so together prior to your wedding and create a location-route that works with your vision and timing and area. I’m a quick-shooter and work well under pressure and timing guidelines. I never go over time limits and have even had a good deal of fun with the timer on my iPhone to make sure we were well within our timing.

Enough facts you say?

Here is what you can expect from me as your trusted wedding photographer.

An initial consultation. Quick responses to questions/ideas/thoughts about your wedding via email or phone. As above,  if your friends are sick of you gushing about your colour scheme, drop me a line. An engagement session in a location that suits your taste and vision; I am easily persuaded to head to the mountains too! Location check immediately prior to the wedding (to check for any last minute obstacles etc). An organized understanding of your day and timing- on your wedding day, the only thing you have to worry about is looking gorgeous. Prompt arrival at the starting location. Unobtrusive shooting during your ceremony-I have had guests come up to me after the ceremony that think I’m a guest, as if I was invisible while I had been shooting the entire time. Understanding that stuff happens, timing gets a little off and if you need me to stay for an extra few minutes, it’s not a problem at all. Quick post-wedding facebook sneak-peak, we’re talking within days. I’m so excited about your photos I can’t stand it! Archival and fire-safe storage of your images in at least 2 different places- I don’t take chances! A beautiful, custom created DVD slideshow and case set to the music of your choice that chronicles your entire day from start to finish. Your final images on a custom printed DVD, fully and individually re-touched in both high-resolution and small jpeg format.

Hi Sarah,

My fiancee and I are getting married in October 2014 and we are looking for a wedding photographer. We are looking to host our wedding in the mountains and are currently deciding between three venues. The locations are varying distances from Calgary. Are you willing to travel for a wedding? We are currently looking into Salmon Arm, Fernie, and Invermere. I am friends with Renae Hunter and thought you did an absolutely fantastic job of her wedding photos. I would be very interested to hear back from you to find out if you do travel, and if so what your rates are.

Thanks very much!

Hi Sarah,

My fiancee and I are getting married in May 2014 (likely on the 31st) and are on the lookout for a wedding photographer. We are looking to host our wedding in Canmore and are currently interested in St. Michaels Anglican Church for our ceremony and the Grande Rockies Resort for the reception. If you could please send me some more information about what your wedding package includes and your rates for mountain weddings I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi Sarah,

My fiance and I are getting married August 10, 2012 at Mt. Norquay in Banff. I’m wondering if you charge extra for weddings in Banff and also the length of time that is included in the $2850? Any info you could provide would be greatly appreciated!
